Philippines begins construction of 500 MW solar power park
The solar park is part of a 1 GW subsidy-free PV project portfolio expected to be completed in 2023.
Project developer Solar Philippines Nueva Ecija Corporation (SPNEC) plans to build a 500 MW photovoltaic facility on a former ranch in Peñaranda, Nueva Ecija Province, Central Luzon Region, and has begun construction of the first 50 MW unit.
In a filing to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), the company said: "The first 50 MW unit is targeted to supply power to the grid from the end of 2022, allowing SPNEC to become profitable in 2023 and build the remainder of the project. Pave the way."
“After the first phase of 50MW of capacity has started feeding the grid, considering the relative ease of adding capacity at an already operational solar park, SPNEC plans to install solar panels for the next phase of 175 MW of capacity within half a year and is ready to install a Solar panels will be installed during the year to achieve the remainder of the 500MW total capacity.”
Once completed, the subsidy-free power plant will be the largest solar facility in the Philippines. The project is part of a 1 GW portfolio of PV projects announced by SPNEC in December 2020.
